Hair accessories are often the perfect final touch to a hair style. One great thing about hair accessories is that they don’t have to be expensive to look fabulous. Hair accessories for all occasions come in a variety of designs that use shape, color, size and decorative materials to provide brides with a wealth of options.

Whether they have long hair, short hair, curly hair or straight hair, women love hair accessories. Versatile and fun, clips, barrettes, hair combs and tiaras help women look and feel glamorous.

Experimenting with hair accessories is a great way of gaining inspiration for the theme of your wedding so don't rule out a look you would normally avoid as once put it in your hair it might look fantastic. Each design is versatile because of the fact that you can wear it exactly how you want it to.

In regards to ensuring your hair accessories are there on your wedding day, you need to be organised and order them early, especially if you are purchasing from an online retailer. You need to know postage or delivery services and when you will receive the item you have ordered. Alternatively if the accessories will be bought from a shop you should ask the store manager if they will have the item you have requested, and the quantity you require, in stocked on the date that you need it.

When is it the best time to start looking for my accessories?

It’s best to choose your dress before you begin choosing your accessories, so you can make sure they co-ordinate. This doesn’t stop you looking, in the meantime, to find out what companies sell the style of accessories you like. If you get the opportunity, try on as many different hair accessories as you can because they tend to look very different in the hair. You may end up falling in love with something that didn’t catch your eye to begin with. Ensure before you make the final decision on your chosen hair accessories that they are perfectly complementary by considering the style design, colour and finer detail of your gown, whether it is silver, gold, pearls, beads or crystals chosen to highlight the overall desired look.

The best hair accessories to compliment your hair colour?

Black hair tips

Ivory freshwater pearls look sensational in dark hair and really complement the hair’s natural tones.

Hair flowers look gorgeous in really dark hair. Whether ivory, white or coloured, they’re perfect for a spring or summer wedding.

Vintage-inspired sparkly hair combs are on trend at the moment and make a real statement in black hair.

Blonde hair tips

Gold is the most flattering colour in blonde hair. Too much silver can look cold and harsh against blonde locks, especially if it is a big, heavy design.

If you do want silver, look for warmer tones with lots of sparkle. These pieces really do sit nicely in blonde hair.

For long, blonde curly hair with no fringe, a forehead band looks great and gives a bohemian look that suits this hair colour and style. Think boho bride with a glamorous edge.

Brunette hair tips

Brunettes can pull off the sparkle of a diamanté piece like no one else. If you’re wearing a side piece, ensure the headband has detail along the whole band, or ask if the band can be ribbon wrapped to match your hair. Metallic shades will stand out against darker hues.

Medium brown is the perfect base for introducing colour to your hair accessories. Add touches of colour to complement other elements of your wedding, including your bouquet or bridesmaid dresses.

Red hair tips

Emphasise glorious red hair with warmer tones. Consider choosing hair accessories with Champagne- coloured crystals to give a subtle softer glow. Alternatively, turn up the drama and richness with the addition of red, orange, yellow, blue or green crystals.

Red heads look super glamorous when their hair is sweep into an up-do. A strategically-placed comb and statement earrings will add to the timeless elegance.

Shorter, cropped auburn hair styles look fabulous with headbands. Vintage-style headbands with a sprinkling of diamanté make a true statement.

What about the bridesmaids?

Some brides like to choose hair accessories for their bridesmaids that coordinate with their own, such as a hair comb that matches the bride’s headband. Some decide on giving them different hair combs for each of their bridesmaids, so don’t feel as if you have to conform to having all their accessories matching. If they choose something they really like, they are likely to wear it again after the wedding.

What if the item I like isn't exactly how I want it?

Some companies offer a customization service allowing you to tailor make the item to your needs and create something very unique.

Hair accessories and your Gown - If your dress is very ornate, or has amazing detail like beads or ruffles; you may want to choose something simple for your hair to keep attention on your gown. Alternately, if you are wearing a very simple dress, you may want to choose a hair piece that gives you a stylish focal point.

Hair styling and placement of hair accessories - Are you wearing your hair down, in an up-do, or half-up? If your hair is down, a clip-in flower or rhinestone hair clip beside your ear is very flattering. If your hair is up, you can still wear a hair clip near your ears or tucked in near the back. You can also opt for sparkly or floral hair pins scattered in or near your up-do. If you’re wearing your hair half-up, anything goes. Your choice in hairstyle plays a role in determining what sort of veil and headpiece you can carry off.
