Bridal Hair Plan

One Year Before

  • Start looking in hair magazines to find what look you desire. Also, think about whether you are having a straight, curly, up or down style. Decide whether or not you have to grow your hair.
  • Speak to your personal hairstylist about colour and the health of your hair.
  • Book your hair and make-up for your engagement and wedding.

Three to Six Months Before

  • Arrange your first consultation with a hairstylist and make-up artist, who is a specialist and has extensive experience in their craft. Your personal hairdresser may not be the best for this job and also may not provide a mobile service. Please note: your wedding photo's last a lift time, so I suggest you carefully choose your hair and make-up artist wisely.
  • If your bridesmaid's haven't yet met, organise a get-together. Perhaps when you have your hair and make-up consultation or trial. Your bridesmaid's would love to help you make the best hair and make-up look, that will suit you perfectly and may also ask to have a trial run for themselves.
  • Don't waste your time and money, have your hair and make-up trial on the day of your engagement party or you could incorporate it with an offical engagement portrait arranged with your wedding photographer or perhaps your dinner rehearsal and of cause not forgetting your hens night. Alternatively, any special occasion between now and your wedding day.
  • Book your hair and make-up trial.
  • We suggest you consider being prepared well in advance by commencing monthly facials and hair protein/moisture treatments, also visit your personal hairdresser for regular trims and colour to ensure your hair and skin is looking its very best on the big day. This will allow for easier styling and make up application. Also, purchase a home care programme to maintain your hair in good condition.
  • Book all hair and beauty appointments leading up to your wedding day.

One or Two months Before – the Hair & Make up Consultation/Trial

  • Gather any photos or pictures of hairstyles and dress designs for yourself and your bridesmaids; this will give us a clear understanding as to the style and look you are after.
  • Bring any hairpieces, veils, extensions or accessories with you or you may prefer to ask our advice at the consultation. We have a range of hair accessories which can be incorporated into hairstyles. If you have something different in mind we may be able to make it for you.
  • The consultation and trial is your opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. We will use this time to get to know you, your expectations and your hair.
  • If you would like a golden glow on your special day try a spray on tan. Trial a few different brands until you find one that you are happy with. An orange glow is not flattering on anyone!
  • Bring a camera with you to the consultation/trial. There are many styles to choose from and you may look very different from one style to another.

Two Weeks Before

  • Book yourself and your man with your personal hairdresser for your final hair trim and/or treatment. A scalp massage is a great stress reliever. Don't forget both of your parents as they also need to look their best on the big day.
  • Confirm all appointments for the big day such as your celebrant, hairstylist, make up artist, photographer (time-line for the day), florist, cake maker, entertainment and car hire etc especially if you are staying in a hotel/resort.

One Week Before

  • Does anyone need a colour? This is the time to organise your final colour application. If you have chosen an ‘up’ style, ensure that the back is properly coloured.  With a hairstyle with a parting, the colour applied must be focused on this area, especially where foils are concerned. We do not recommend doing any drastic changes in colour or cut at this stage.  It is too late as a big change will affect the suitability of your dress, colour scheme, make-up and even husband to be!  If the poor man doesn’t recognise the woman he fell in love with, he may think he is at the wrong wedding!
  • Have your eyebrows re-shaped and all your other waxing and beauty treatments done, such as eyelash and eye brow tints, eye lash perming, lash extensions, manicure/pedicure, artifical nails.
  • Spray tan (2-3 days before the big day)
  • Have a dress rehearsal with all your accessories just to check zippers and bra straps are comfortable with no surprise last minute alterations.

The Day Before

  • Talk to your bridal party to make sure they understand all their individually assigned tasks on the day.
  • Make sure the whole bridal party washes their hair well and to shampoo twice if necessary, unless your hairstylist gives you other advice. For baby fine, oily or limp hair, please give your scalp a good brush and shampoo twice then just leave it, don’t condition it! Your hair will be stronger and easier to style if you can avoid washing it on the wedding day.
  • If anyone is having their hair blow-dried, they are required to wash their hair on the day.
  • Try to spend quality time on your own, perhaps have a relaxing massage.
  • Plan to go to bed early. Consider a relaxing, scented  bubble bath and a herbal tea to give you a good nights rest. If you are tired it can affect your skin, eyes and sense of humour.
  • Lay out your wedding outfit, shoes and accessories.
  • Pack your emergency kit!
  • Pack for your honey moon

The Big Day

  • Bridal party may shower, but don’t get your hair wet and dress in clothing that zips or buttons up at the front
  • Have a hearty breakfast, this is important and often overlooked, then brush your teeth before your make-up and hairstyling is done
  • Eat well and drink plenty of water through out the day.
  • Limit the number of people at your house during preparation time
  • We will arrive 15 minutes before the appointed time at the location to set up and recreate the hairstyle/s we have designed
  • All we need is a table and chair near a power point. We bring the rest
  • If we are styling the bridesmaids’ hair as well, we will start with one of them followed by another bridesmaid or the bride, depending on how many people we are styling.
  • We will style the hair before the make-up artist applies the make-up
  • We will co-ordinate with the make-up artist for optimum time management
  • Approximately 45 minutes to one hour is allowed for each hairstyle to be completed and 30 minutes to 45 minutes for the make up application.
  • One hour before the photographer arrives the bridesmaids can get dressed and then assist the bride to get dressed
  • I administer the final touches and pin the veil in before or as the photographer arrives
  • You will be ready on time, and the preparations will be an enjoyable, stress-free experience

You are now looking glamorous, feeling relaxed and ready for the happiest day of your life!
